The Shipperdson Papers
An amazing find...... In 1856 the then unknown Reverend E. H Hopperton inherited land from his Uncle, Edward Shipperdson of PittingtonHall Garth, County Durham.
As part of the bequest the young Hopperton took his uncles family name, thus becoming the Revd. E. H. Shipperdson.
Many of the farms and lands he inherited were in Marton Cum Grafton.
He settled the estate on his Neice (and Heir) Ethel Pottinger on her marriage in 1885 to Henry Mesey Mesey Thompson of Kirby Hall (above).
The Deeds are summarised in 50+ pages on the enclosed document.
The deeds are dated 1626 - 1885 and are a wealth of names and dates needing to be transcribed.
