The Demolition of the Old Church at Marton cum Grafton

In 1873 the Vicar of Marton Cum Grafton, the Rev. Lunn had the old church, complete with its saxon origins that had served the village for 800 years  (photo above) demolished and the present church built.

A couple of years later he presented a paper to the Yorkshire Architectural Society on the project.

Although this can be viewed as a defence against a possible charge of destroying a historic church for no good reason other than fashion, the report none the less makes interesting reading.
